What’s in the name?

The other day, a friend asked me why we chose Breakwater Coaching as the name for our coaching services.

It’s simple.  Breakwater is another name for a harbor — a place of safety for sailing ships.  We provide  a safe harbor — a place for couples to come and find solutions to their marriage problems.  We help couples identify a vision for their marriage, and we hold onto that vision while they walk towards it.  We help them develop a marriage toolbox, which includes communication skills, conflict resolution skills, “great dates” that build intimacy, and a plan of action for developing a couples’ vision, a family vision, and a ministry vision, just to name a few.  These tools build strong, lasting relationships.

Breakwater Coaching helps ministry leaders develop a leadership toolbox, identifying and managing a vision for their sphere of influence in leadership.  Leaders are often looking for a safe harbor, a place where they can air their concerns in leadership and get assistance for developing a plan for change.

Are you looking for a safe harbor?  Maybe you are a ministry leader, and need a place to sort through conflict.  Perhaps you have been married for some time, and your relationship has gotten stale.  You are looking for answers, and haven’t taken the time to sort through your random thoughts.

Why coaching instead of counseling?  There are times when a counselor is necessary to help a person deal with wounds from the past, and focus on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.  When a person struggles with life-altering issues, such as addiction or abuse, counseling is needed.

However, many people are simply looking for information for change.  A coach empowers the client to take charge of their lives, and equips the client with information needed for change.   Relationship coaches will assist couples in learning how to make the right investments in their marriage — investments of goal setting, time management, consistency, sacrifice, perseverance, and accountability.  The couples reap the rewards of trust, emotional availability and physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy.

What if I don’t live in your area?  Relationship coaching is easily available by video conferencing, telephone, or email.  Of course if you do live in the area, you can call us at 863-875-6869 for a personal interview.

Many couples report that they wish they had come sooner rather than later.  We take great pride in putting the couple at ease, being emotionally available, taking a non-biased approach, and maintaining a non-judgmental attitude.  Couples report lasting effects from several relationship coaching sessions, as they have developed their own plan and taken steps to a more rewarding, satisfying relationship.

Simply put, Breakwater Coaching is a safe harbor.  Feeling safe is key to building trust in relationships.  We like helping others build great relationships with God at the center.
