Meet the Team
Brian & Karen Cartland
As President and Vice President of Breakwater Coaching, Brian and Karen Cartland bring heartfelt leadership, spiritual depth, and a shared vision to the Breakwater team. Both are Certified Professional Life Coaches through the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), committed to guiding individuals and couples toward emotional freedom, relational healing, and spiritual growth.
Brian, a native of Chicago, holds dual degrees in Economics and International Affairs from Florida State University. Since 2014, he has served in marriage and relationship ministry, blending biblical wisdom, personal testimony, and humor to help men and couples navigate life’s storms. He previously served as a lay pastor at Generation Church in Jupiter, Florida, and authored Sharp Iron Study: Book of James, a curriculum designed for both group and individual Bible study.
Karen graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Fine Arts and brings creativity, compassion, and a deep love for ministry to her coaching. Her experience includes serving as a sponsor for Celebrate Recovery, leading small groups in the Freedom program, and helping coordinate outreach efforts such as the “Night to Shine” ministry.
Brian and Karen have a blended family and reside in Lake Wales, Florida. Their passion is helping others live unmasked, unashamed, and anchored in grace.
Cheryl Roberson – Vice President of Communications
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Cheryl relocated to Florida in 2004. She is married to James, and she has one married daughter. Cheryl’s professional journey began over 30 years ago as a legal secretary, including fourteen years in administrative roles at Walt Disney World.
Twelve years ago, Cheryl was introduced to Breakwater first as a client, and then as an administrator. Inspired to help others, Cheryl pursued training as a life coach, earning AACC certifications in Life Coaching, Eating Disorders, and Emotional Eating. She completed Breakwater’s UP program for Women’s Leadership, and facilitated groups and women’s retreats.
Today Cheryl serves as Vice President of Communications for Breakwater Coaching. She is one of Breakwater’s most passionate encouragers, supports events, oversees communications, and continues to coach and mentor women through seasons of feeling stuck, grief, divorce, and food-related issues. She and James serve together at the various events and retreats.
Cheryl brings authenticity and hope to her work, drawing from her own life experiences and her faith in Christ. She loves helping women discover freedom from strongholds and live an authentic life through individual and group work.

Brian & Robin Dingess – Coaches
Brian and Robin have been part of Breakwater since 2018 and became AACC-certified marriage coaches in 2019. They also hold certifications in mental health coaching. Their passion is to see lives transformed through the renewing of the mind by God’s Word—combining marriage and life coaching with biblical truths and personal life experiences to help others grow and find freedom in Christ.
Brian, originally from Columbus, Ohio, is a graduate of Zion Bible Institute and Southeastern University, where he earned his B.A. in Pastoral Studies and Christian Education. He has served as both an Assistant Pastor and Children’s Pastor in Columbus and Winter Haven. A faithful member of Haven Worship Center for 18 years, Brian has been active in the children’s and small group ministries. His heart is to challenge men to embrace their God-given role as spiritual leaders in their homes—loving their wives as Christ loves the Church and walking boldly in God’s calling on their lives.
Robin is a lifelong second-generation Floridian who has lived in Winter Haven her entire life. Seven years ago, she began her journey with Breakwater, attending every class available before becoming a certified coach. A dedicated member of Haven Worship Center for over 30 years, Robin continues to serve faithfully in both small group and children’s ministries. Recently, she graduated from Charis Bible College with an A.A. in Biblical Studies. Her deep involvement in women’s ministry has fueled her passion to help women become the Proverbs 31 women God has called them to be.
Together, Brian and Robin share a blended family of five adult children—three of whom are married—and five beautiful grandchildren who are the joy of their lives. Their unwavering commitment to the Lord and to each other inspires their mission to guide others in discovering their identity in Christ, breaking free from negative labels, and seeing themselves as whole and redeemed through His eyes.
